IELTS Reading Tips
IELTS Reading is not only a test of English vocabulary. It is also a test of reading strategy, time management, and accuracy. Many Khmer learners try to read every word in the passage, but this often wastes time and creates stress.
This section of IELTSKhmer.com will help you understand how to approach IELTS Reading in a smarter way. You will learn how to find information quickly, understand the main idea, manage difficult vocabulary, and answer different question types more confidently.
In the IELTS Reading test, you need to answer 40 questions. The passages may include academic topics, general topics, facts, opinions, explanations, and arguments. Some words may be unfamiliar, but you do not need to understand every word to answer the questions correctly.
One important skill is skimming. This means reading quickly to understand the general idea of a passage or paragraph. Another important skill is scanning. This means looking quickly for specific information, such as names, numbers, dates, places, or key words.
This category will also explain common IELTS Reading question types, such as True / False / Not Given, Matching Headings, Multiple Choice, Sentence Completion, Summary Completion, and Matching Information. Each question type needs a slightly different strategy.
Khmer learners often lose marks because they match words only, not meaning. IELTS Reading often uses paraphrasing. This means the passage and the question may use different words with the same meaning. For example, the question may say “increase”, while the passage says “rise” or “grow”. Learning to recognise paraphrasing is very important.
You will also learn how to avoid common mistakes, such as spending too much time on one question, ignoring instructions, writing too many words, and choosing an answer based on general knowledge instead of the passage.
The aim of this category is to help you read more efficiently, answer more accurately, and feel more confident during the test.
